Twilight

These stars, they peek down at me
From between the clouds and dance
Through my hair, between your ankles
It's a beautiful sight, can you hear me now?

Staring up a sliver,
Just a clipping of the moon,
And the headlights and street lamps

Cotton candy pink,
You can't help but wonder if
The clouds would become sticky

And then, when the saltwater stars to
Eat at the edges
And prismatic blues fill the sky,
You ask me,
"Tell me something I don't already know."
Mist and dew against your shoes,
Between the grass,
Things start to feel solid and vibrant
As the saltwater chases
The stars and the moon away. Can you hear me now?

Between the branches and the leaves,
Exploring the carcasses of day,
You're a stranger in the night, when
Everyone else is asleep and gone.
Yearning for the perfect moment between
Night and morning,
Between asleep and awake,
between me and you.
